One quarter of school-age children do not touch vegetables and over one third will eat no fruit during the course of a day. Yet, fruits and vegetables are an important part of a child's daily diet as they provide essential vitamins, minerals, fiber and other nutrients for good health. Experts recommend eating five or more servings of fruits and vegetables each day.

Serve fruits and veggies at every meal and make them available as snacks. Fruits and vegetables can help you achieve energy balance when they are substituted for higher calorie foods and snacks.
